When you backup your Yoti account to Google Drive, a message is displayed saying “Yoti would like to access your contacts”. The wording of this message is set by Google themselves, and Yoti can't change it.
However although the message might seem to imply the Yoti app is going to access your contacts, in actual fact we only store a Recovery File on your Google Drive, without accessing any other data there.
Note that the backup does not place a copy of your personal data and attributes on your Google Drive. It simply stores a ‘recovery key’ that enables us to reconnect you with your own Yoti account if you need to reinstall the Yoti app (for example, if you get a new phone). Your personal data and attributes are held securely in Yoti’s data centres.
It’s important to backup your account in case you lose your device, or need to access your account on a new phone. You only need to backup your account once and can recover your account on a new phone or a newly installed version of the app.
